ENOSPC and inode exhaustion.

No space left on device

ENOSPC covers two different shortages

Blocks or inodes. A directory of millions of small files exhausts inodes while reporting free gigabytes.

Check both

df -h df -i

Find what grew

du -sh /var/* | sort -rh | head

Deleted files still held open

lsof +L1

A log removed with rm keeps its blocks until the writing process closes it. Space appears used with no file on disk.

Scope: failure mode: ENOSPC and inode exhaustion.
